Mineral cosmetics are being touted as a breath of fresh air for the skin in the cosmetic industry because minerals allow the skin to breathe. Unlike most cosmetics which contain chemicals, dyes and fragrances, these cosmetics are free of pore-clogging oils, preservatives and cakey materials such as talc. Although some mineral makeup lines have been around since the late '70's, the trend has just recently caught on with the masses. Today's consumers are more educated about what they put on their skin. Remember 60% of of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your blood stream. What do we refer to as Pig Fat and Bug Juice? Just because an ingredient is natural doesn't mean that you want to put it on your face. Two ingredients commonly found in All Cosmetics and some foods are Stearic Acid and Cocheneal Extract (also called Carmine). While some stearic acid is derived from Palm trees much of it is fat that is steamed off of animal hides after the animal is butchered. If you buy a product containing stearic acid make sure it is Palm Stearic Acid. Cocheneal Extract or Carmine is a natural red coloring. It is made by boiling Cocheneal beetles to cook out their red coloring. Then it is absorbed by Alum or Cream of Tarter. Then it is used as a colorant and put in many lipsticks and make-up. It is approved by the FDA as a food colorant as well. Check your popsicle ingredients. The FDA says that it can contain insect parts as well. That is why you won't see carmine in any of our products. Still not convinced?
